PIATRAONLINE, nominated as EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017

Entrepreneurship in Romania is growing popularity and the most solid proof for this is the large number of companies already acknowledged, besides the successful initiatives from multiple areas: from the food industry and bicycles manufacturing, up to IT, medical services and publishing. In this sparkling setting of the entrepreneurial area, the introduction in Romania of the prestigious EY World Entrepreneur of the Year program came as a natural consequence.

The EY World Entrepreneur of the Year is the only worldwide competition of its kind, rewarding entrepreneurs for their strategy and vision in business development, innovation spirit, personal integrity and beneficial community engagement. The event has been organized for over 30 years, in 145 cities from 60 countries, covering more than 94% of the global economy. Since 2014, the competition was also introduced to Romania.

Mariana Bradescu-Constantinescu, Managing Partner ROCK STAR CONSTRUCT SRL ROMANIA, owner of PIATRAONLINE brand, was nominated for the final EY World Entrepreneur of the Year. The 46 companies represented at this final stage have total revenues of EUR 535 million, with 8,000 employees and an average number of 180 employees in 2015. ROCK STAR CONSTRUCT SRL ROMANIA, by its PIATRAONLINE brand, has registered a turnover of 4.4 million euros in 2015.

This year's jury included the following: Levente Hugo Bara – General Manager Supremia Group; Dan Farcasanu – Investment Director Resource Partners; Ruxandra Hurezeanu – General Manager Ivatherm; Mariu Stefan – CEO Autonom Rent a Car and Dragos Petrescu – CEO City Grill Restaurants. The standards and evaluation of this contest remains the same applied worldwide in every country participating in this program and focused on 6 main components: entrepreneurship, financial performance, strategic management, global and community impact, innovation and personal integrity.

PIATRAONLINE was established in 2007 for the main activity of selling natural stone products. 2010 is the year if launching piatraonline.ro and from 2017 was have also an English version of the website, focused on increasing exports on the European market, already available since 2014. The year 2016 marks a difficult and complex rebranding process for PIATRAONLINE, which also included restructuring of its internal procedures. The expansion and activity diversification will continue in the following years, according to the confidence in the positive projections of the Romanian economy.
